Kogi Residents on Saturday described the State’s Local Government Election as peaceful, free and credible as voters turned out en masse and voted for candidates of their choices
Mr Bashir Gegi, Commissioner for Solid Minerals, in his remarks, described the election as very peaceful and encouraging.
Gegi, who lauded the efforts of the electoral commission, expressed confidence that the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) would win the election in Kogi LGA.
“This is because opposition is dead in the state as almost the entire people of Kogi LGA are APC supporters due to the wonderful works that Gov Usman Ododo’s administration is doing across the state.
“We are also confident that APC will sweep the election across the 21 LGAs because we have proven and tested candidates, couple with Gov Ododo’s giant strides in his few months in office.
“We believe that there’s no more opposition in the state because of what our governor is doing for the people, ” he said.
Gegu called on those chairmen and councillors that might emerge victorious to be leaders for all people within their areas to replicate what governor Ododo was doing for the people of the state.
He commended the State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) for organising and conducting a free, fair and credible election in the state.
Also speaking, Mr Mohammed Tanko, Chairman, Civil Service Commission, expressed gratitude to God and KOSIEC for the peaceful manner the election was held across the state.
Tanko said: “This has been our dream for this state that all elections be peaceful, free and fair for us progress as a state.”
“This is because what peace can not give you violence can’t give. Therefore, we need this kind of understanding by all political parties and the electorate.
“As you can see what is happening here in our ward, everything is going on smoothly without any hitch or crisis,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Solomon Yahaya, Chairman, Joint National Association of People With Disabilities (PWDs), Kogi Chapter, was full of praises for the Chairman of the commission, Mr Mamman Nda-Eri, for his display of excellence in the conduct of the LG poll’s.
Yahaya, who was an observer during the polls, said that the PWDs were not left out in the creation of conducive atmosphere for them to participate in the election.
According to him, the way and manner the election was conducted by the commission gave the hope that democracy was on the path of progress in Kogi and Nigeria as a whole.
