The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS8.3 Kogi Command has commemorated the Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) Remembrance Week with prayers and gifts for victims.
The staff of the Command, in conjunction with the Road Safety Wives Association (ROSOWA), held interfaith prayer and thanksgiving services at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) City of Grace and the Shagari Central Mosque in Lokoja.
Mr Samuel Oyedeji, FRSC Kogi Sector Commander, at the evemt, expressed concern over the high casualty rates in the state, attributing them to speeding, drug use, drunkenness, and disregard for traffic rules.
The event, which began on Sunday, November 17 in honour of victims of road accidents, aimed to raise awareness about road safety and reduce casualty rates.
He emphasised the need for attitudinal change among road users to prevent avoidable crashes.
Oyedeji explained that the theme “That Day” was a call to action for road users to obey traffic rules and regulations.
He assured the public that FRSC would continue to work with stakeholders to promote road safety through public enlightenment programmes and aggressive enforcement of traffic rules.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event culminated in a visit to victims at Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja and Kogi Specialist Hospital, where ROSOWA, NYSC, Special Marshals, and FRSC staff offered prayers and presented gifts.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
