Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Friday commended the President Bola Tinubu and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for establishing five Mini Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta Local Government, Kogi.

Akpoti Uduaghan, who is representing Kogi Central Senatorial District and is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, described the initiative a a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy alternatives.
The senator noted that the project would reduce carbon emissions, and enhanced energy security.

“The establishment of these Mini LNG plants demonstrates government’s commitment to implementing sustainable energy policies, fostering economic growth, and environmental protection.
“The five Mini LNG plants will tap into Kogi’s vast natural gas resources, creating employment opportunities, stimulating industrial development, and ensuring access to cleaner and more affordable energy for households, businesses, and industries.
“This project is expected to address persistent energy supply challenges in the region, boost industrialization, and attract local and foreign investments, transforming Ajaokuta into an energy hub in Nigeria, ” she said.
She also praised the President and NNPC’s leadership for their forward-thinking approach in driving this transformative initiative.
According to her, the deployment of Mini LNG plants showcases the Federal Government’s determination to diversify the energy mix, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
She added: “As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, I will ensure the project’s execution involved local participation and inclusion of indigenous expertise, enhancing the capacity of the local workforce and aligning with the goals of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act (2010).
“This is because the Mini LNG plants are expected to provide significant environmental benefits, reducing carbon emissions and air pollution, and paving the way for a cleaner and greener future.”
Sen. Akpoti Uduaghan, however, reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for sustainable policies and initiatives that prioritize the well-being of the people and the development of Kogi Central District. (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
