The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced significant achievements in its fight against crime in the state. During a press briefing held at the State Police Command Headquarters in Uyo on Monday, January 20, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, highlighted the Command’s successes in the past week.
Child Trafficking Arrests
The Command arrested two sets of suspected child traffickers. The first set, Roseline Dennis and Sunday Udo Ekong, were caught attempting to transport two children, aged 4 and 2, to Umuahia, Abia State, to sell them. The victims were rescued and reunited with their families.
Similarly, another set of suspected child traffickers from Abia State were arrested for trafficking two children, aged 11 and 12, from Ikot Edibom Village and Mkpatak Village, respectively.
Defilement Cases
The Command also arrested two suspects for defilement. Daniel Effiong Umoh, aka Akaka, was arrested for defiling a girl, while Louis Akpojotor Mevoweoyo, a pastor, was arrested for defiling his daughter.
Cultism and Recovery of Firearms
Operatives arrested three suspects, Nsongurua Etim Okon, Godspower Effiom Etim, and Etieyen Joseph Bassey, for cultism and recovered a locally made pistol and a jackknife. The suspects confessed to belonging to the Italian Mafia Secret Cult Confraternity.
Armed Robbery and Unlawful Possession of Firearms
The Command arrested Holy Evans Andrew for armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms. Two live and two expended cartridges were recovered.
Vandalism and Stealing
Operatives arrested four suspects, Samuel Udo Jack, Israel Peter Udobia, Ndifreke Ndak Umoh, and Benjamin Samuel Udo, for vandalizing a transformer belonging to the community.
Unlawful Possession of Hard Substances
The police arrested Umoh Ubong Udoh, a physically challenged person, for unlawful possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
