The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reiterated that former Naval Chief, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman, and Brigadier-General Ishaya Bauka remain on its wanted list for their alleged involvement in a N3 billion fraud.
In a statement issued by Mr Demola Bakare, ICPC Spokesman, the commission said: “Contrary to claims that the ICPC’s amended charges have exonerated the duo, the Commission emphasized that the charges were only amended, not withdrawn.”
“This means that the allegations of embezzlement and abuse of office still stand.
“A subsisting arrest warrant remains in effect for the two ex-military officers, and the public is urged to assist in bringing them to justice.”
The ICPC clarified that it was standard practice for prosecuting agencies to amend charges and proceed against available defendants, with the understanding that those at large or with outstanding warrants will be added to the case upon their arrest.
Bakare said: “The case against the ex-Naval chief and Brigadier-General originated from an original charge filed on April 17, 2023, which included five other defendants.
“Despite being served through their lawyers, the duo failed to appear for arraignment, prompting the Commission to obtain a bench warrant for their arrest ².
“While one of the original defendants, Mr. Adam Imam Yusuf, was arrested on Feb. 4, efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two ex-military generals.”
He assured that if they were arrested, the ongoing charges would be amended to include the initial allegations against them. (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
