The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate incidents for unlawful possession of firearms in Ibeno and Eket.
A statement issued in Uyo by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Timfon John, said that the arrests were made on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22 by intelligent officers.
Jihn said that the first suspect, 65-year-old Nehemiah Sunday Udo, was arrested along Ibeno Beach Road after a tip-off from a law-abiding citizen.
He said that items recovered from suspect were: One double-barrel long gun, One cartridge, One torchlight and a traveller’s bag containing clothes.
According to him, Udo claimed to be a member of the Professional Hunters Association of Nigeria duringinterrogation.
But that investigations are ongoing to verify his identity and mission in the area.
The second suspect, Emmanuel Sylvanus-Ekan, was reportedly arrested by police operatives along Ikot Udoma Road, Eket, for possessing a locally made pistol.
He said that Sylvanus-Ekan was immediately taken into custody and detained for further investigation.
john quoted the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Baba Mohammed-Azare, of reiterating the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order.
He, however, urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.(ephemeralnews.com.ng)
