Mr Peter Uche, a member of the Benue State House of Assembly (APC/Guma), says he has facilitated the sinking of a motorised borehole in Yogbo community of the constituency.
Uche told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Makurdi that he has concluded arrangements for a medical outreach to address the health needs of his constituents.
The lawmaker said that the borehole, courtesy of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, was aimed at addressing acute water scarcity in Yogbo.
He said that he has observed over time that many people were going through serious health challenges caused by displacements and the prevailing economic hardship
“The free medical outreach will be conducted in Daudu in May or June.
“Predominantly, my constituents currently have nothing to do because of many years of attacks that displaced them from their ancestral homes.
“I have been doing my best at my individual level to assist them in addressing some of their challenges.
“I recently paid a hospital bill of N1.3m to free one of my constituents who was held at Bishop Murray Hospital Makurdi after treatment for a snake bite.
“The family couldn’t foot the bill because of the situation they found themselves in. The crisis has taken everything away from them, as most of my constituents have stayed in the camps for close to ten years.
“This is a group of people who ordinarily were self-independent. They farm to feed themselves and others at the state and federal levels,” he said.
Uche expressed concern that his constituents faced several challenges, which included insecurity, deplorable roads and water supply.
According to him, Guma is worse hit by the security challenges.
He told NAN that immediately he won the bye-election in February 2024, he approached the Minister of Water Resources for assistance for a borehole in Yogbo.
He said the borehole has already been completed and would be put to use soon.
The lawmaker further said that his constituents, most of whom were terribly affected by the crisis, urgently needed some sort of empowerment support to bounce back on their feet.
Uche further assured the people of more quality representation in the house. NAN
