The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday conducted medical outreach in Kanshio, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue, as part of activities to commemorate its 69th anniversary celebration.
Navy Capt. Henry Ejeh Commandant, Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, Makurdi, who flagged off the exercise, said that the gesture was part of activities slated for the anniversary celebration.
Ejeh said the aim of the medical outreach was to meet the medical needs of their host community and further produce a seamless relationship with the citizens.
The commandant, who was represented by Lt Aderonke Olayinka, Base Nursing Officer, said the Naval Day was an annual day that appreciates and celebrates personnel’s doggedness and resilience in attaining the overall mission of the service.
He said the outreach was designed to show citizens that beyond securing lives and property, they offer other services to the people, such as healthcare and education, among others.
He stated that the medical outreach was also to enhance the civil-military relationship between their personnel and civilians in Benue and Nigeria at large.
Ejeh said over 100 persons had already been attended to, adding that 500 patients were targeted for the exercise.
He said cases beyond the team at the outreach would be referred to their hospital for further attention.
In his remarks, the community leader, Mr Fred Mbachie, commended the Nigerian Navy for offering quality free medical healthcare services to the people.
Mbachie said the exercise would further cement their relationship with the personnel and urged the people to always feel free to interact with the personnel.
Mr Williams Mbassey, a beneficiary, told newsmen that he had health challenges and was attended to adequately.
Mbassey commended the naval leadership for carrying out policies that would further endear them to Nigerians. NAN
