Gov. Hyacinth Alia of Benue has promised to immortalise late Pa James Asemakaha by executing a community project at Mbaduku, Vandiekya Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
Alia made the promise on Saturday at the burial of late Asemaka at Tsar, Mbaduku Vandiekya LGA.
The governor, who was represented by Mrs Serumum Aber, Secretary to the State Government, said that he would consult with the community leaders to determine the type of project to be executed.
He said that Asemakaha lived all his life serving his community and the state, adding that he was a good example for all to follow.
Alia stated that his administration would never allow any individual or group to take over any part of the state, no matter the level of attacks and intimidation.
The governor urged the people, especially the youths, to always be alert in view of the prevailing situation in the state.
He told the people to increase their community vigilance to stave off attacks in their communities.
In his funeral oration, Ter Kunav HRH Chief Nyinongo Achiaku said the stated state police and not the military to protect them.
Achiaku said that there were rumours of impending attack in the area and urged the people to increase vigilance.
Earlier, the President General, Kunav Development Association, Mr Tor Yaji, in his funeral oration, commended the late patriarch as a man who lived for the people.
He said while alive, he once sold his car, gave his son Raymond money to add and buy a transformer for his community, and also supplied water to the community.
The Tor Jerchira, HRH Chief Edward Ujege, promised to reawaken the Jerchira Day celebration in order to sustain the unity they were known for in the past.
He said it is not yet well with Benue people regarding security and acknowledged the contribution of the deceased in fostering peace in Kunav land.
The chief mourner, Dr Raymond Asemakaha, Managing Director, Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC), commended his friends for donating N73 million and 28 cows towards the burial of his father.
