The Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Kogi on Monday urged widows to embrace hope and strength to develop their homes for the well-being of their families.
POWA Chairperson, Dr Bessie Dantawaye, gave the charge in Lokoja during the maiden edition of the International Widows’ Day Celebration in the state, themed “From Grief to Strength.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chairperson distributed rice, detergents, Maggi, noodles, and other items, bringing smiles and a sense of belonging to the widows present.
In a landmark event promoting compassion, empowerment, and solidarity between POWA and the Late Police Officers Wives Association (LAPOWA), Kogi Chapter, Dantawaye encouraged the widows to remain strong and uphold their families.
Represented by Mrs Sherifat Placid, a member of the POWA Board Management Team, Dantawaye lauded the resilience, patience, and survival instincts of widows facing life’s toughest challenges.
She added, “I urge you to foster harmonious relationships with your late husbands’ families and embrace skill acquisition for financial stability because no one knows when the evil day may come.”
The guest speaker, Mrs Christiana Omowumi, CEO of H&C Company and a widow, shared a powerful testimony of her journey from despair to triumph.
“As a widow, you are not weak but strong; not rejected but accepted; not dead but alive.
“You must press forward with prayers, diligence, and confidence to fulfill your dreams,” she said.
Omowumi also pledged a cash donation of N1,050,000 to 21 widows, a gesture met with joy and deep appreciation.
Responding on behalf of the widows, Mrs Hasina Michael, LAPOWA State Coordinator, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers and guest speaker.
NAN reports that the ceremony ended on a joyful note, with all participants receiving valuable packages and welfare gifts.
The event marked a significant milestone in efforts to uplift, support, and empower widows within the police community and beyond. NAN
