BUK Mourns the Passing of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata
— Vice-Chancellor Describes His Death as a Monumental Loss to the Nation
The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff, and students, has expressed profound grief over the passing of the elder statesman, eminent businessman, and distinguished philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who died on Friday, 2nd of Al-Muharram, 1447 AH (corresponding to 27th June, 2025), in Abu Dhabi, at the venerable age of 94.
Describing the loss as monumental, Professor Abbas noted that Alhaji Dantata’s demise marks the end of an era defined by unwavering dedication to national development, moral leadership, and a deep commitment to human upliftment. He highlighted that the late icon’s legacy is deeply etched in the annals of Nigeria’s history, particularly in Kano State and within the Bayero University community.
“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was far more than a philanthropist. He was a moral compass, a beacon of hope, and a fatherly figure to countless individuals across the nation. His humility, wisdom, and lifelong dedication to service exemplify the highest ideals of humanity,” the Vice-Chancellor remarked.
He further emphasised that Alhaji Dantata’s contributions to Bayero University Kano spanned several decades and touched virtually every facet of the institution—ranging from generous scholarship schemes and infrastructural support to invaluable institutional partnerships.
“He firmly believed in the transformative power of education. His commitment enabled thousands of indigent students to pursue academic excellence and achieve life-changing goals. His legacy is written not only in the structures he helped to erect but also in the lives of generations who have benefitted from his magnanimity,” Professor Abbas added.
On behalf of the entire Bayero University family, Professor Abbas extended heartfelt condolences to the Dantata family, the Government and people of Kano State, and indeed all Nigerians who were inspired by the remarkable life and service of the departed elder statesman.
The University fervently prays that Almighty Allah (SWT) grants Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus, and bestows upon his family and loved ones the strength and solace to bear this tremendous and irreparable loss.
