The Coalition for Equity and Good Governance, in collaboration with religious groups and concerned citizens, has condemned inciting comments and social media posts following the unfortunate incident in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area. The coalition commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s peace initiative and proactive measures towards restoring peace and safety in the state.
The coalition emphasized that Plateau State is not a hub of religious crises, but rather a beacon of peace and unity. The attacks on various communities in the state are not related to any religion or faith, but are purely acts of genocide and land grabbing, which have displaced people from their ancestral lands, the leaders of the coalition pastor John Zakari and Salisu Abdullahi made this known in a world press conference held in Jos on the 11th of July 2025, they also condemn the mob on travellers that happened in Mangun district of Mangu local government and sympathize with the people of Zaria Kaduna State and prayed for God to comfort the family of the victims and caution against such actions.
*Condemnation of Mob Action*
The coalition strongly condemned the mob action that occurred in Mangun district, describing it as a totally condemnable act of criminality. However, they noted that the incident was likely a result of the recent attacks that have been happening in the area.
*Call to Disregard Misinformation*
The coalition called on international organizations and the federal government to disregard misinformation portraying Plateau State as anti-religious. They emphasized that the state is a symbol of peace and tourism, where Muslims, Christians, and other nationalities coexist harmoniously.
*Commendation of Governor’s Efforts*
The coalition praised the establishment of the Plateau State Inter-Religious Advisory Council, which aims to foster unity, tolerance, and social cohesion. They also appreciated Governor Mutfwang’s developmental strides, which have attracted investors and boosted the economy.
*Call for Proactive Security Measures*
The coalition urged security agencies to be more proactive in preventing incidents like the one in Mangun. They noted that advising travelers against night travel and asking questions at security checkpoints could help prevent such incidents.
*Call for National Unity*
The coalition called for national unity and urged all to work towards peace and unity. They emphasized the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence and refraining from negative comments that could destroy the peace in Plateau State.
