The Police Command in Akwa Ibom on Tuesday, presented cheques worth N37.2 million to families of 33 officers who died in active service.
Presenting the cheques, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, said that the gesture was part of the Police Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes.
Azare said that the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun was fully committed to the welfare of the families of deceased officers.
He said that the money would enable the families to believe in the system, saying,”the sacrifices of your loved ones cannot be forgotten”
“We are very grateful to the I-G of police, his generosity to the families of deceased police officers is highly appreciated.
“We urge the befitting families to be wise and prudent in using the money, the essence is to support their wellbeing,” he said.
The police commissioner stated that the police would remain committed to implementing robust welfare schemes for its personnel and families of deceased officers. NAN
