The National Youths Service Corps (NY SC) on Friday swore in 1,200 corps members for the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 orientation course in Benue.
The State Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba gave the number during the swearing-in ceremony at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.
Garba in her speech, urged the newly sworn-in corps members to actively participate in all camp activities which had been designed to build their capacity for future leadership responsibilities.
“You will be challenged through healthy competitions where you are expected to display the spirit of sportsmanship.
“You will also be co-opted into administrative operation of the camp to further enhance the desired leadership and citizenship skills required of you”, Garba said.
The Coordinator also informed the corps members that the government and people of Benue were hospitable, urging them to feel at home and concentrate on serving the nation.
She appreciated Gov Hyacinth Alia for his unwavering support rendered to the NYSC scheme in the state especially in the areas of security of corps members.
“The governor has prioritized the security of all corps members posted to Benue by ensuring that security deployments were made to areas of their primary assignments”, the Coordinator said.
In his address of welcome, Alia who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Creativity, Mr Philip Nongu congratulated the corps members for successfully completing their studies.
The governor lamented that the whole country was burdened by security challenges, saying that Benue was not an exception.
However, he assured them that they would be safe through out their service year, saying that the government was in collaboration with all security agencies in the state to ensure adequate security for all corps members posted to Benue.
He enjoined the corps members to pay special attention to the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme created for them to acquire vocational skills during the service year.
The governor informed the new corps members that the SAED programme would enable them to be self sufficient after their service year, urging them to take it seriously in order to beat the current economic situation of the country.
Administering the oath of allegiance to the corps members earlier, the Benue Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, urged them to be law-abiding during and after the service
