Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has called on Nigerian youths to harness technology and strategic partnerships as tools for national growth and development.
The governor gave the charge in Lokoja on Tuesday during the 2025 International Youth Day celebration, themed “Youth Advancing Multilateral Cooperation through Technology and Partnership.”
He was represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Farouk Yahaya.
Ododo noted that his administration had created platforms for Kogi youth to demonstrate their potential and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state and the nation.
“Our youth are gifted and talented.
“What is needed is for them to display these talents through technology and collaboration to prove their worth,” he said.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Monday Anyebe, urged youths to work hand in hand, using technology and partnerships not just as tools, but as the foundation for a brighter future.
He emphasised that collaboration and innovation were key to unlocking opportunities and driving meaningful change in society.
He said that Kogi’s vibrant youth, through their energy and passion for positive change, continued to serve as driving forces behind collective progress.
Anyebe also highlighted the Ododo administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through impactful initiatives.
He disclosed that the government had launched digital skills programmes aimed at preparing youths to thrive in the global digital economy.
“The government is supporting young entrepreneurs by providing access to funding, mentorship, and other resources to build ventures capable of stimulating growth and development,” he added.
Also speaking at the event, Ms. Folusho Owoeye, a senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Kogi State Polytechnic, expressed confidence in the determination of Nigerian youths to overcome present challenges.
She described the event’s theme as timely, stressing that technology and partnerships served as essential tools for advancing both the state and the country. NAN
