The Idoma Youth Patriotic Movement (IYPM) has cautioned Governor Hyacinth Alia against alleged moves to replace his deputy, Dr Sam Ode, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement signed by James Ochoga, President, and Friday Adah, Secretary, the group reiterated its support for the governor’s administration but warned that dropping Ode, who they described as “a bonafide son of the Idoma nation”, could cause deep division in Benue South Senatorial District.
“We are worried over the growing rumours that you have decided to replace your current Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, in 2027. This rumour is spreading fast and has already generated tension,” the statement read.
The group alleged that supporters of the House of Representatives member for Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, Hon. Ojotu Ojema of the PDP, were already celebrating in Agatu over claims that he was being considered as Alia’s new running mate.
They also accused powerful individuals at the Och’Idoma Palace of backing the plan, warning that Ojema was a “political liability” whose alleged conduct had already weakened the PDP in Apa/Agatu and led to mass defections.
“Dr Sam Ode has never been found wanting in his service as Deputy Governor. He has shown extraordinary loyalty and respect to the governor and must not be treated with disdain,” the group insisted.
The IYPM cautioned that any move to drop Ode would set “a terrible precedent” and called on people of good conscience to resist it.
