Mr Moses Essien, the member representing Ibiono Ibom in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly has donated work tools, business starter packs and cash to empower members of his constituency.
Speaking at the empowerment programme at Ikpa Pavillion, Essien said that the gesture was to enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker presented three vehicles, 22 motorcycles, six welding machines and 20 sewing machines to members of the constituency.
He also presented freezers, generating sets, vulcanizing machines, aluminum cutting machines, hair dressing machines, and cash to the constituents.
The lawmaker expressed his commitment to ensure effective representation of his constituency at the state legislature.
“Part of the essence of this exercise is to appraise my civic covenant with my people, show how accountable I am, and to solemnly discharge my mandate as a representative,” he said.
Essien, a members of the All Progressives Congress, said that Gov. Umo Eno and President Bola Tinubu had demonstrated visible commitment to service delivery.
“What we are doing today is to key into the policies and programmes of the party as captured in the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“I appeal to my constituents to support the policies and programmes of both tiers of government, they really mean well for us,” he said.
The lawmaker thanked Ibiono Ibom people for the mandate and sustained goodwill that had inspired him for greater service delivery.
In his speech, Eno described Essien as a vibrant, reliable and focussed legislator who had represented his people effectively.
Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Eno said that the lawmaker had contributed immensely to the growth of Akwa Ibom.
“I am convinced that the people of this constituency made a good choice in the election of this lawmaker,” he said.
The governor urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the work tools and starter packs to establish themselves and become self-reliant.
The Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Udeme Otong, said that Essien had contributed enormously to the lawmaking process at the assembly.
“He is a dependable member whose wealth of experience and knowledge have added value to the legislative business of the assembly,” he said.
Sen. Bassey Akpan, the Chairman of the event, said that the primary responsibilities of a legislator was to make laws and attract economic incentives to the people.
Akpan said that Essien had done well in both legislative tasks and the welfare of members of the constituency. NAN
