The Supreme Council of the United World Congress of Diplomats (UN WCD) has appointed Dr Magdaline Dakogol as the West African Regional Head for Women and Gender, Office of the Secretary General.
UN WCD is a diplomatic organisation headquartered in Canada and the United Kingdom, with a global mandate to promote international peace, cooperation, and understanding through the art of diplomacy.
Dakagol’s appointment letter was signed by Prof. Tunji Asaolu, Secretary General, Supreme Council of UN WCD, and made available to newsmen on Sunday.
Asaolu said that the organisation acknowledges Dakogol’s outstanding dedication to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The secretary general stated that UN WCD was confident that her leadership would significantly further its mission to promote peace and development across the region.
He said that as the West African regional head for women and gender, the appointee would play a crucial role, undertaking responsibilities that include advocacy and policy and development.
According to him, she will be leading initiatives that address gender-based issues and advocating for policies that promote women’s rights, empowerment, and gender equality in West Africa.
“Collaborating with local and international partners to develop comprehensive strategies that align with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals related to gender.
“Spearheading programmes and projects aimed at enhancing the socio-economic status of women in the region, including workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns.
“Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of these programmes to ensure they meet established objectives and produce tangible outcomes for women.
“Building networks and partnerships with government agencies, civil society organisations, and grassroots movements to bolster support for women’s rights initiatives.
“Organising capacity-building workshops and mentorship programmes for women leaders, facilitating their professional growth and leadership opportunities,” he said.
Asaolu expressed confidence that Dakogol’s extensive experience and passion for gender advocacy would enhance the organisation’s efforts in the critical area.
The secretary general said that the appointment takes immediate effect.
