The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command, has said it was not involved in financial impropriety, economic sabotage and victimisation of staff in the command.
Mr Friday Ekerete, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, made the remark in a statement in Uyo on Tuesday
Ekerete, who reacted to the allegations against the Commandant, Mrs Geraldine Abetianbe, described them as false, malicious and figment of the writer’s imagination.
He explained that the commandant was accused of complicity in financial misconduct and straining the cordial working relationship with other sister agencies in the state.
He stated, ‘’there was no iota of truth in the claim that the relationship with sister security agencies in the state is fractured.”
Ekerete dismissed the alleged financial impropriety over staff welfare scheme and explained that the scheme in question had existed before the Commandant’s assumption of office in Dec. 2025.
”About staff welfare, it was expanded to include all personnel through a unanimous decision taken at a muster parade held at the State Command Headquarters.
“This was followed by the appointment of the executives comprising representatives of all ranks/levels right at the parade ground.
“Deductions were made from all staff, including the State Commandant,” he said.
Ekerete said that some staff members kicked against the implementation of the scheme, and ”because of that, refunds were made and the scheme was abolished immediately.”
He also dismissed the alleged command’s refused to distribute technology operational system packs and drones received.
He explained that the items would only be disbursed for use after the personnel had been trained by resource persons from the National Headquarters to enhance security operations.
”Since they are systems configured for security use, due process is being followed in line with Corps policy in this regard,” he added.
Ekerete also faulted allegations made against the commandant bordering on appointment and victimisation of staff.
He explained that NSCDC’s personnel deployment reflected the federal character principle and based on merits.
He said that the commandant would not be distracted by attempts to cause disaffection within the Corps and among sister agencies.
Ekerete reaffirmed the command’s commitment to its mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.
He urged the media to always seek clarification from the Command before publication to avoid misleading the public. NAN
