Police on Tuesday says Retired Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, David Shikfu Parradang, was found dead in his hotel room at Joy House Hotel in Abuja, contrary to reports that he was kidnapped and killed.
The FCT Police Command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said that Parradang allegedly arrived at the hotel on March 3, driving a black Mercedes Benz, and checked in for a one-night stay, paying N22,000.
This statement is contrary to earlier reports, which alledged that Paradang was trailed to tge bank by kidnappers, who kidnapped him and collected his money before killing him in morning of Tuesday, March 4.
According to the FCT Command, a female guest alledgedly visited him in his hotel room, but left around 4:00 pm of Monday.
It further explained that thereafter, Parradang was not seen exiting his room.
But that his lifeless body was discovered seated in a chair by a military officer friend, who had gone to check on him after being unable to reach him.
The police, who were later notified, rushed to the hotel and secured the area. They took photographs, and collected evidence to preserve the crime scene.
The FCT Police Command, however, urged the public and media outlets to refrain from spreading unverified information, including claims of kidnapping, that may incite fear or panic.
The Command pledged its commitment to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Parradang’s death.
Parradang, who served in the NIS for over 30 years, held various positions across the country, including Comptroller General.
He served in Kano, Lagos, Kwara, Enugu, and the Federal Capital Territory. He also attended several professional courses both within Nigeria and internationally.
In recognition of his service, he was awarded the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and was a distinguished graduate of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
