The Management of the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL) says the Council of Legal Education has carried out an evaluation visit to its Law Faculty, ahead of the formal commencement of Law programme in the institution.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr Daniel Nwanko, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Thursday.
Nwanko said that a team of professionals, led by Prof. Isa Hayatu-Chiroma (SAN), visited the institution and two others in the state for three days .
According to him, the team arrived Lokoja on Monday and left on Wednesday, after completing its assessment of two other universities and what FUL has in place in readiness to kick-start the Law programme.
“The council’s visit would be a big relief to candidates who had applied to the university to study law as pioneer students of the expected 2024/2025 session,” he said.
Nwanko gave an assurance that once given the approval to commence, the management would no doubt keep to its promise.
“For now, there is no change in the management’s plan to admit students for law programme for 2024/2025 session. Unless approval is not given by the council.
“We are very ready and committed to our promise to admit students once the council gives us the green light to start the programme,” the PRO said.
NAN recalls that a month ago, some of the parents of the candidates appealed to both the council and the university to consider the plight of their wards, who have anxiously waited for the list of successful candidates to be released.
One of the parents, Mr Sani Onogu, described the council’s visit to the institution as “a big relief and sign that all hope is not lost.
“Our prayer is that the council will come out with a positive report and approve the law programme.
“The truth is that our children and wards are so worried about their continued stay at home, while their friends and mates are in school studying.
“We, the parents, are so worried also,” Onogu said.
Another parent, Mrs Zainab Abdullahi, also expressed hope that the council would give FUL the nod to start the law programme as earlier promised. NAN
