The Marine Police in A’Ibom has successfully accosted and repelled attack on individuals by seven pirates in a speedboat in A’Ibom State.
A statement, signed by the Police Command’s Spokesman, DSP Timfon John, on Monday, said that the incident happened along the Oron/Calabar waterways.
John said that the repel followed a distressed call of May 10 at approximately 12:06p.m. by operatives of the Marine Police, while conducting search and rescue operations along the Oron/Calabar waterways.
“Upon receiving the distress call of the ongoing sea pirate attack, the Officer-in-Charge of the Marine Police swiftly mobilized and led operatives to the scene.
“On sighting the Marine Police patrol boats, the hoodlums opened fire sporadically. The police operatives returned fire, forcing the pirates, who sustained bullet wounds, to escape into a shallow creek inaccessible to the police boats, ” he said.
According to him, the police boldly went ahead and invaded the pirates’ camp, where various items were recovered.
He disclosed some of the items recovered to include, one W23 speedboat fitted with a single 200HP Yamaha engine gearbox, one 15HP Yamaha engine, dismantled engine parts, one Dane gun and one improvised toolbox.
Also recovered were one Emage Petrol Generator, one OX standing Fan, a rubber container with materials suspected to be charms, one white candle, and one black wallet containing one WAEC ID card with the name ‘Patrick Edet Effiong.’
Others are two recent passport photographs, ine brown handbag containing some tablets, two rounds of K2 live ammunition, two empty shells of K2 ammunition, one wristwatch, one marker, One perfume, one black thread and needle and one body cream.
John said that the efforts are being intensified by the command to apprehend the fleeing suspects to face the wraths of the law. (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
