Mr Kumar Tsukwam has on Tuesday assumed office in Lokoja as the new Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kogi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tsukwam replaced Mr Samuel Oyedeji as the 27th Sector Commander following the later retirement from service.
Addressing the staff and Special Marshals, Tsukwam tasked them on the need to improve on their service delivery.
He also urged them for support and renewed commitment to duty.
“I’m here in Kogi to pilot the affairs of this Command and therefore I am in dire need of your support, commitment and teamwork toward meeting the values and vision of the FRSC.
“By God’s grace, I will strengthen road safety sensitization and public education through media engagements, Youth Safety Education (YSE) and all means possible to allow every individual to understand what Road Safety entails.
“This is because knowledge is a powerful tool in changing human attitudes. We shall also enhance bookings of critical offenses and ensure reduction of mix loading along Kogi routes,” he said.
He also urged the people of Kogi, especially road users, to continue to be law abiding citizens as they have always been to traffic rules and regulations.
The Commander warned that the command would not tolerate law breakers nor relent in putting its best towards ensuring a safe motoring environment and reduction of Road Traffic Crashes on Kogi roads.
He immediately key-in to a press preffing with the staffs, Special Marshals and the stakeholders in commemoration of the 8th UN Global Road Safety Week with the theme: “Street for Life; Make Walking Safe,Make Cycling Safe.”
According to him, pedestrians and cyclist are also part of the road users therefore it is of importance we make the road safe for them as well.
He promised to work hand in hand with the state government to ensure more pedestrian bridges and road path for cyclists are created.
In response, the Special Marshal, Mr Austin Damisa, who represented the State Coordinator, welcomed and appreciated the aector commander, and pledged their full support to him to succeed in Kogi. NAN
