Mr Abubakar Zubairu, Assistant Inspector General of Police (DIG), Zone 8, on Friday lauded the synergy and cordial relationship existing between the Judiciary and Police Force in Kogi.
Zubairu gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice (CJ) of Kogi, Justice Josiah Majebi, in his office at the High Court premise, Lokoja.
The AIG said the partnership with the CJ and the judiciary in the administration of justice in the state was satisfactory, considering the report he was getting from prosecution of cases in courts.
He said that the combined efforts of the police and the Judges in the courts has greatly helped in ensuring relative peace in the state.
“I felt I should find time to come and thank you for all the assistance you have been rendering to us and to share personal experiences in the profession with you.
“Unfortunately, we don t have much lawyers, and in most cases, the few either appear in court or they use corps members.
“But we are doing everything humanly possible to make sure they act professionally in courts every time.
“The first thing I observed, when I got here, was that we have a lot of man power challenges such that the 10,000 men recruited recently may not meet our expectations, ” he lamented.
According to him, the police force need aggressive recruitment.
Responding, Justice Majebi praised the police protection unit for its performance, especially their quick respond to whatever complaints presented before them.
The CJ quickly lamented that lower courts in the state and their Judges were vulnerable and requested for deployment of policemen to cover the courts on daily basis.
“Despite the police protection unit, we still have not gotten enough police needed to man our courts, particularly the Magistrate courts.,
“We are asking that we should, at least, have one as duty officer per court, ” the CJ pleaded.
He, however, thanked the AIG for the visit, which he described as “encouraging ” and good for the administration of justice in the state.
