The Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Miller Dantawaye, has embarked on a stakeholders’ engagement tour to the Isanlu Area Command in a bid to enhance grassroots security collaboration and tackle growing insecurity in Yagba Federal Constituency.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports in Isanlu on Thursday that the visit was aimed to strengthen community policing and foster cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
During the tour, the CP paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the paramount ruler of Isanlu Kingdom, where he was warmly received by the monarch, His Royal Majesty, Moses Babatunde, the Agbana of Isanlu.
The monarch, who commended the CP’s humility and leadership, described the visit as a rare gesture of respect for traditional institutions.
Dantawate, in a subsequent interactive session with community stakeholders, emphasized the importance of discipline, professionalism, and community trust in policing.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities and hold erring officers accountable, assuring them of ongoing training initiatives to improve police conduct.
The Commissioner stressed that security is a collective responsibility and encouraged the public to volunteer timely and credible information about criminal activities in their areas.
He also called for regular joint meetings between community leaders and security agencies to enhance security cooperation.
Dantawaye encouraged the formation of community vigilante groups by urging them to work in synergy with security agencies.
He also cautioned against jungle justice, reaffirming the Force’s respect for human rights and the rule of law.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area, Hon. Dare Joshua, commended the CP for the visit and pledged the council’s support for law enforcement in the area.
The chairman, in recognition of the CP’s outstanding leadership and community-focused policing, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), presented him with an award of excellence.
NAN reports that the event ended with commitments from stakeholders to strengthen cooperation for enhanced security in the area and sustain communication with law enforcement agencies.
