The Police Command in Kogi has pledged improved service delivery to the residents for the maintenance of peace and security.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Miller Dantawaye, made the pledge on Friday during the Nigeria Police Force’s strategic engagement with critical stakeholders in Lokoja to mark the 2025 customer service week.
Dantawaye said that the occasion aimed at advancing the mission of the force, which is to maintain law and order, prevent, detect, and investigate crimes.
The CP stated that the occasion was also to emphasise the NPF’s resolve to protect lives and properties and uphold the fundamental rights of all citizens.
“This engagement is meant to provide avenues for members of the public to give assessments based on their evaluation of police services in their respective areas.
“It also offers the command an opportunity to reflect on its successes, celebrate accomplishments, and re-evaluate its performance to enable the force to deliver the best possible service to the good people of Kogi State,” he said.
The CP disclosed that the mission of the police could best be achieved through the effective implementation of the community policing approach, which involves working with community stakeholders to enhance crime control.
According to him, obtaining feedback from the public on services rendered by the police in the state would help the command improve its service delivery.
He called for continued partnership and collaboration with the police to enhance security in the state.
In his remarks, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 8, Mr Abubakar Zubairu, commended members of the public for their support and cooperation with the command.
Zubairu urged the public to see themselves as police officers in plain clothes, stressing that the public has a vital role to play in peacebuilding within their communities.
“Community policing provides the public with opportunities to actively participate in policing activities in their areas.
“I therefore urge members of the public to consistently provide feedback on police performance. Without such feedback, the Force can not properly assess or improve its services,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, HRH Abdullahi Idris, the Chief of Jimgbe, commended the police for the level of services being rendered in the state, particularly in the Jimgbe Community.
While urging the police to be more committed to their official mandate, he assured them of continued partnership and support to enable them (police) to improve on their service.
Also speaking on behalf of the Hoteliers Association, the Chairman, Hon. Ocheni Matthew, Managing Director of Hotel Pacific, called for improved collaboration to make the state the safest place where business activities thrive.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) and the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) attended the engagement.
NAN also reports that representatives of the GSM Repairers Association, Okada Union and the Police Civil Relations Committee (PCRC) also spoke and pledged their cooperation and support to the police. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
