Adamawa needs a visionary and competent leader to sustain the giant strides made by Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri for the maximum benefit of the people, Mr Ishaya Durkwa has said.
Durkwa, who is the Executive Director of the International Organisation for Peacebuilding and Social Justice (PSJ), made the assertion on Saturday in Yola at the Adamawa Forward Summit.
The PSJ executive director, who was a guest speaker at the summit, said Fintiri did tremendously well as the governor of the state.
He stated that as the 2027 general elections draw near, all efforts must be on deck to ensure that a competent leader succeeds Fintiri.
“And all of you here will agree with me that we have seen development in a way that we’ve not seen in the past.
“We need to start this conversation before the politicians and the politics begin and our emotions are high, and we will not be able to make a reasonable decision,” he said.
Durkwa described the summit as timely and urged participants to understand the concept of the summit for Adamawa to move forward.
Gov. Fintiri, in his remarks, appreciated the stakeholders and the organisers for finding it expedient to organise the summit on the need to sustain his administration’s achievements.
The governor, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Social Mobilisation, Dr Victor Dogo, promised to execute more projects and programmes before he exits office in 2027.
“The administration of this government has without a doubt laid a foundation that only those that understand where we’re coming from and where we’re going to will be able to sustain,” he said.
In their separate remarks, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council in the state, Dr Rufus Asia and Umar Ahmed, respectively, testified to the effort made by Gov. Fintiri.
They said that the Fintiri-led administration had done well in all sectors of life, like security, education, health, agriculture, and road infrastructure, among others.
