Ahead of the 2027 general elections, stakeholders across party lines in Apa Local Government Area of Benue have discarded their differences and united to secure House of Representatives and Senate seats for their people.
The stakeholders made their position known in a communique at the end of Apa Youth Arise Summit held at the Maryam Babangida Centre for Women Development, Abuja, and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.
The communique, which was signed by Comrade Paul Edoh, Convener, and Mr Inalegwu Ogiri, Organising Secretary, Apa Youths Arise Summit, said they were out to secure Apa’s political future in the 2027 elections.
According to the communique, the summit was attended by major political stakeholders, representatives from USAID and other eminent political figures from Apa and beyond.
“This summit underscored a critical transition for Apa, especially as we march towards the 2027 elections, with the emphasis placed on securing representative positions in both the Federal House of Representatives and the Senate.
“Elders and traditional rulers within Apa have pledged their unwavering support for candidates representing Apa in the upcoming elections in line with the instant zoning agreement of the federal constituency of Apa/Agatu.
“This consensus reflects a collective desire to elevate our sons and daughters into prominent political positions in a manner that promotes justice, equity and fairness in the Federal Constituency,” the communique reads.
The stakeholders also promised to mobilise massively for the ongoing voter registration for the 2027 election.
“All discussions across various social mediums and community gatherings must prioritise the ‘Apa Agenda’.
“To this end, we encourage all youth groups to consolidate efforts, forming a united front for the realisation of the Apa Agenda in 2027 and beyond.
“Political parties were urged to reserve and restrict their tickets for candidates that are qualified and hail from Apa in respect of the 2027 Federal House of Representatives election.
“This is to honour and observe the gentleman’s zoning agreement to advance fairness, equity and justice and, in a way, position their political parties for overall victory at the 2027 general elections,” the communique reads.
The group further calls on the paramount ruler of Idoma land, Ochi-Idoma Elaigwu Odogbo, to support the Apa agenda for fairness and equity. NAN
