A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Richard/Emem Inyang Foundation on Wednesday, conducted free medical outreach to no fewer than 1,000 vulnerable persons in Akwa Ibom.
The outreach was held at the Palmer Memorial Hospital, Ikot Usen, in Ibiono Ibom Local Gocnemet Area (LGA) of the state.
The gesture was part of the foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and was extended to Ikot Ikpang Itam community.
Speaking with newsmen during the outreach, President of the Foundation, Mr Richard Inyang, said that the outreach was in thanksgiving to God for preserving his life as well as to give back to society.
“What we are doing is a way of appreciating God for saving my life; the accident I had was well broadcasted all over the media, everywhere.
“I had third degree burns and multiple surgeries; nobody believed I was going to survive, but God saved my life for a purpose, ” he said.
According to him, as a missionary and minister of God, one of the best ways to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ is to reach out in practical terms, to the needy and vulnerable.
Inyang said that the programme included: free medical outreach, free distribution of food, toiletries and clothing, preaching the gospel and winning souls for Christ.
“What you have seen us doing is purely self-funded; we are not receiving funding from the government, not from anywhere, I have to let people know that,” he said.
He commended the medical team-led by Dr Inyang George, for doing an excellent job in rendering the services almost free of charge.
The medical outreach featured free eye consultations, health education sessions, eye screening, distribution of reading glasses, among others.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Chief Itaobong Sampson, thanked the foundation for the philanthropic gesture and prayed God to continue to uplift the team. NAN
