Mrs Comfort Ife, Vice Chairman Lokoja Local Government Area, Kogi, has been directed to take over as Acting Chairman of the Council following the suspension of her boss by the State House of Assembly.
The Chairman of the local government, Mr Mohammed Dansabe, was on Thursday suspended by the lawmakers over an allegation of misappropriation of about N150 million.
The House, in a letter signed by its Clark, Alhaji Chogudo S. Ahmed, directed Ife to take over the administrative functions of the LGA with immediate effect.
The Assembly said that Ife would be in office ,pending the outcome of the investigation of the chairman by Adhoc committee of the Assembly.
“After debates, the House of Assembly resolved and issued the following resolutions:
“That the Vice Chairman is herewith directed to take over the administrative functions immediately, following the suspension of the chairman, pending the outcome of his investigation by the Ad-hoc Committee, ” the letter read.
The ephemeralnews.com.ng reports that the House had received a petition from nine out of 10 councillors of Lokoja LGA, asking for the investigation of the Council Chairman, Alhaji Dansabe Muhammed, over an alleged misappropriation of about N150 million revenue allocations received by the council.
On deliberations on the petition, the House suspended the chairman and the Leader of the legislative Arm to give room for smooth investigation of the matter raised by the councillors. (e-meralnews)
