The Rotary Club, Jos Central, has donated 90 desks and 3,000 exercise books to select schools in Plateau as part of its humanitarian services.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN/ reports in Jos on Friday that the benefiting schools include LEA Yelwa Zangam primary school, St. Theresa primary school, and St. Michael primary school Heipang.
Dr Kayode Fasua, the club’s central district governor, while presenting the materials said it was Part of the club’s way of improving learning and creating conducive environments for pupils of the schools to study.
Fasua said that the gesture was in line with rotary’s “Dust to Desk Project” which was aimed at serving humanity, saying that “there was no better time to execute the project than now.”
“In Rotary, we have our thematic areas of focus; literacy is one of them. I’m happy to be here to make the presentation of the desks and exercise books.
“We want to see the pupils comfortable while having their studies, we therefore urge the school managements to make the best use of the donated items to enhance the learning and comfort of the pupils as the items donated are strictly for the pupils.” He said.
Fasua, urged organisations and Nigerians to engage more in humanitarian activities that would improve and impact lives which would in turn lessen the burden on the government at all levels.
The Head teacher of LEA Yelwa Zangam primary school, Mr Bala Peter, who received the donated items to the school, commended the Rotary club Jos central district, for their continuous support in creating a conducive learning environment for the pupils.
He said the Jos Central district, had in the past made donations of desks, uniforms, bags and exercise books to the school, which greatly impacted the pupils learning.
Peter, said the current donations of desks and exercise books would facilitate learning and create a conducive environment for the pupils.
“The school had received 30 desks initially from this club and this current donation of 30 desks has amounted to 60 desks, this gesture would enable 120 pupils seat comfortably while learning rather than seating on the floor during learning “, he said.
The health prefect of the school, Fatima Danladi, thanked the club for its kind gesture saying the pupils would have more seats to sit on while learning.
Similarly, the head teacher of St. Theresa primary school, Mrs Victoria Jamang, commended the club for its intervention.
Jamang, said the donation made by the club has made the environment conducive which would enhance learning.
Mrs Patience Emmanuel, the head teacher of St. Michael primary school Heipang, said the intervention done by the Rotary club Jo’s central, was apt to enhance learning.
Emmanuel ,commended the club for its donation as the act has created a conducive learning environment for the pupils.
