The 12 Brigade Nigeria Army has launched an operation, tagged: “Exercise Still Waters III” aimed at ensuring security of lives and property during yuletide season in Kogi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the exercise was flagged off by Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, in Okene on Monday.
The Commander, 12 Brigade Nigeria Army, Brig. Gen. Harunah Dasuki, described the exercise as an annual event that was being conducted by the Nigeria army to ensure that the Yuletide period was secured for members of the community where they operated.
Dasuki explained: “It has been noted that during the Yuletide, crimes and other vices are always on the rise, hence the headquarters of the Nigeria army deemed it feat to rise to the occasion by intensifying efforts to curtail them (vices) for the people to enjoy the season.
“it is a national exercise that is meant to run from of Oct. 2 to Jan. 5, 2024. The Exercise is also aimed at encouraging synergy among security agencies,
“This is because no security agent can work alone, hence the need for collaboration to ensure a secured environment for the people, ” he said.
The brigade commander assured that the Nigeria Army would continue to intensify efforts to ensure a secured environment for the people, as well as economic activities to thrive.
He, however, appealed to the communities to provide adequate information to the army at all times to enable them keep the areas safe.
Bello, on his part, assured that his administration would continue to provide the necessary support to complement efforts of the military to enable them tackle issues of insecurity in the area.
The governor who was represented by the Chairman of Okene Local Government Area, Alh. Abdulrazak Mohammed-Yusuf, promised that the citizens would provide adequate information that would help the officers to discharge duties effectively.
NAN reports that in attendance at the flag-off ceremony were Heads of various Security Agencies in the state.
