An Activist, Dr Ekaette Ettang,, has appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria against signing the European Union and Africa-Caribbean and Pacific countries (EU-ACP) Partnership Agreement.
Ettang, who made the appeal on Thursday in Jos, when she led a peace walk ,to express her concerns over the planned signing of the European Union and Africa-Caribbean and Pacific countries (EU-ACP) Partnership Agreement.
She said that the treaty would subtly introduce the Lesbianism, Gay marriage, Bisexual, Transgender and Bisexual (LGBT) ideology in the country when signed.
” I appeal to the federal government to avoid signing the ‘deceptive’ treaty.
“Nigeria, is a sovereign nation, and no longer under the colonial rule, if Nigeria signs the treaty by the European Union’s it has subtly signed the Lesbianism, Gay marriage, Bisexual, Transgender and Bisexual (LGBT) agreement and this act would lead to a moral war.” She said.
She said that the LGBT agreement had been so craftily worded that once signed by Nigeria, the agreement automatically supersedes the nations’s respective domestic laws and establishes LGBT as their new law.
“Article 40 of the Agreement directs treaty parties to promote “universal access” to “sexual and reproductive health information and education” and “relevant health-care services.”
“One of the “relevant health-care services” they are referring to, of course, is abortion, which is seen as an abhorrent practice throughout much of Africa but is a cornerstone of the UN’s SD Goals”. she said.
The ephemeralnews reports that LGBT practices, are illegal in Nigeria as former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan had in 2014 assented to a bill outlawing gay relationships and same-sex marriage, effectively putting the legislation to use several months after it was passed by the two arms of the National Assembly.
However, the law carries a jail sentence of up to 14 years and criminalises the operation of gay club, society or organisation. (ephemeralnews).
