The U.S.-Nigeria Law Group, on Wednesday conducted NEEDS assessment of the 13 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Plateau.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the NGO was in Bokkos, one of the camps, to commiserate with the IDPs, who had come under attacks, forcing them to leave their homes.
Mr Emmanuel Ogebe, the team leader, said that the team was also at the camps to ascertain the exact needs of the IDPs, for immediate intervention.
Ogebe, who revealed that there was a container-load of emergency relief supplies, said it was imperative to conduct the assessment to know the needs that would be considered as essential to the IDPs.
“This is the main reason for the assessment, aimed at enabling our team meet the essential needs of the IDPs,” he said.
Dr Ayuba Matawal, chairman, Bokkos IDPs Welfare Committee, who received members of the NGO, commended the organisation for conducting the assessment.
According to Matawal, the IDPs most essential needs are food, medicals, rebuilding their houses, security and resettling them.
He said the initial number of registered IDPs in the 13 camps was 19,000 persons, but as at last week however, the number had increased to more than 7,000 persons.
He explained that some of the IDPs, who returned to their homes or those of relatives, were still coming to the camps to feed.
He thanked the state government, NGOs and well spirited individuals, for catering for the IDPs through various donations. NAN
