Ambassador Bitrus Yerima, National President, Leadership Initiative (GALI) on Tuesday condemned the attack on security personnel and innocent citizens in Bukuru metropolis by hoodlums.
Yerima made the condemnation in a press statement issued to newsmen in Jos.
Some faceless youths had, on Monday, June 17, allegedly attached some security operatives who tried to ensure observance of the State Government’s ban on street trading around Kugiya quarters in Bukuru town in Jos south Local Government of Plateau.
They were reported to have also attacked staff of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board (JMDB) and passers-by, and burnt down several vehicles in protest to the ban.
But Yerima unequivocally condemn the attack by the hoodlums on innocent citizens, security personnel and the JMDB staff in Jos South LGA
“It’s very unfortunate that those dedicated JMDB staff, along with the joint taskforce, who were performing their legitimate duties aimed at maintaining the Jos Master Plan and restoring orderliness and discipline in our community, were badly attacked.
“The assault on these individuals, who are working tirelessly to beautify and develop Plateau State, is a heinous act that must not be tolerated.
“This is because properties and vehicles of Innocent Nigerians were set ablaze in that unprovoked attack, and such lawlessness shouldn’t go unpunished, ” he said.
The national president called on all security agencies on the Plateau, including the State Commissioner of Police, to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the despicable act.
According to him, it is imperative that the criminals be brought to justice to serve as a deterrent to others who may contemplate similar criminal act.
He added: “I hereby urge the good people of Plateau, who cherished the developmental initiatives of our esteemed Governor, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, to continue supporting his policies and programs.
“These initiatives are crucial for taking Plateau state to new heights of infrastructural development and beautification.”
He urged the leadership of the JMDB to remain steadfast in carrying out their lawful duties as mandated by the acts that establish and govern their operations.
Yerima called on the citizens of Plateau not to allow themselves to be manipulated by external forces against the government but should cooperate with the government for it to realize its good intentions towards them.
He also called on the state government to consider the yearnings of the masses in the implementation of its policies and programmes.
“This is because it’s essential to initiate measures that can alleviate the sufferings of the people rather than exacerbate them.
“There is no better time to get things right and make Plateau a working model of development other than now.
“Let us all put our hands on deck and work towards this common goal,” he said. (ephemeralnews.ng)
