Members of District 9127 of Rotary International stormed the streets of Jos on Thursday to promote peace and peaceful coexistence.
Mrs Vivien Abara, President, Rotary Club of Jos Central, said that the peace walk was to commemorate the 2024 World International Peace Day.
Abara said the essence of the walk was to propagate the importance of peace to the people of Jos metropolis as a prelude to the peace day, which would be celebrated on September 21.
The president said the theme of the 2024 International Peace Day, entitled “Cultivating a Culture of Peace,” was apt as peace was essential for development.
Mr Monday Akubuokwu, Assistant Governor, District 9127, said the significance of the walk was to consolidate on the peace currently enjoyed in the state.
Akubuokwu said that peace was uttermost to the club, as it represented everything that creates peace.
He said that the walk was to inspire people, especially the youths, to toe the path of peace, irrespective of their tribe, religion, and political affiliations.
Mr Bimba Thomas, Rotary Club International State Peace Representative, said the essence of the peace walk was to enlighten of shunning acts that distort peace.
