Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi,on Saturday says the pursuance of truth and ethics is key to progress in any given society.
The governor made the remarks while
felicitating with the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper on the occasion of its 75th anniversary establishment.
Ododo, in a statement issued in Lokoja by his Media Aide, Ismaila Isah, commended Tribune newspaper for sustaining it’s pursuit for truth and keeping to the ethics of the journalism profession.
He described Tribune Newspaper as a “reputable media organisation” that had played leadership role in shaping narratives by holding government accountable over the past 75 years.
“Tribune Newspaper has been setting agenda for truth, transparency, accountability, social justice, democracy and press freedom in more than half a century of its existence.
“Therefore, the enduring legacy of the Tribune as exemplified in the practice of responsible journalism, had endeared the Newspaper to many of its readers in Nigeria.
“Tribune Newspaper has distinguished itself as a reputable news organization that thrives on fact, balance and objectivity even in the face of unprofessional tendencies that lead to misrepresentation and misinformation created by purveyors of fake news.
“I am optimistic that the 75th anniversary celebration would encourage Tribune to sustain the pursuit of truth and ethics of journalism, which are the necessary ingredients for a stable, and enduring democracy in Nigeria,” Ododo said.
The Nigerian Tribune Newspapers was founded on Nov. 16, 1949, by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the first Premier of the old Western Region along wit his wife, Hannah Dideolu.
The Newspaper was built on reputation as one of the nation’s pioneering media institutions over the years.
