The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kogi Sector Command, has deployed 520 personnel to man the roads in the state during and after Christmas and New Year festivities.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Samuel Oyedeji, made the disclosure at a news briefing in Lokoja on Monday.
Oyedeji said that the corps and other security agencies were working towards ensuring road-traffic-crash-free celebrations across the 21 local government areas of the state.
“The command, in conjunction with the state government/security agencies, devised strategies to ensure a free flow of traffic in Lokoja and its environs.
“One of the measures put in place by the command towards achieving zero road traffic deaths within the state is the prompt clearing of obstructions on our roads, which could lead to any form of road traffic crash.
“No fewer than 520 personnel, one towing truck, four ambulances, and two motorbikes, including special marshals, will be deployed for traffic control within the state in order to avoid traffic gridlock.
“The command has put in place during this period robust public enlightenment at churches, mosques, and motor parks to sensitise the people to the danger of road traffic crashes,” he said.
The sector commander emphasised the need for every road user to be safety conscious while using the road.
He enjoined drivers to put their vehicle in good condition before plying the roads so as to avoid unnecessary delays on the road.
Oyedeji wished road users a safe trip to their destinations as they travel during this yuletide session. NAN
