Mr Sule Enehe, Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGSIRS) has solicited partnership with the media for tax awareness and ensuring adequate revenue collection in the state.
Enehe said this while receiving the Kogi Executive Council of the Correspondent Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in his office on Thursday.
The chairman noted that the media played a major role in sensitising and educating the public.
He expressed hope that entering into synergy with the chapel would go a long way in assisting the service to reach out to tax paying public in the state.
According to him, some people are still ignorant of the benefits that will accrue to them and their communities from.tax payments.
“The roads, hospitals, schools, portable water, electricity and other infrastructure are all provided for by the government from the taxes.
“If no-one pays tax, it will be difficult for the government to provide all those social amenities to residents nor bring any development in the state,” he said.
He urged the chapel to do more to publicise activities of the service to create awareness for the public and tax payers to live up to their responsibilities.
Enehe, who commended members of staff of the service for their commitment and hand work, pledged to ensure rapid promotions aside other welfare like yearly 13 month remuneration.
Earlier, the correspondent chapel chairman, Mr Segun Salami of Channels Television, said the chapel was on the visit to introduce its new leaders.
Salami told the chairman that the chapel believed that keeping a close relationship with the media would benefit the service. NAN
