Brig.-Gen. Yushau Ahmed, Director-General (D-G) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has cautioned corps members against embarking on unnecessary travels.

Ahmed gave the caution on Thursday at the NYSC orientation camp Du, in Jos, when he paid a routine working visit to the 2024 batch “C” stream II corps members currently on camp.

The D -G, urged the corps members, who must travel to ensure they take permission before embarking on such journeys.

He urged them to ensure they respect the culture and traditions of their host communities where they would be posted to for their primary assignment.

Ahmed called the corps members to imbibe positive cultural values from their host community and seek ways to improve their host communities either individually or collectively via their Community Development Service (CDS).

He called on the corps members to participate actively in camp activities, especially the skills programme on camp, as it would make them self-sufficient after their service year.

“I urge you to learn at least two skills during your service year; this would enable you to be self-sufficient and employers of labour, “ he said.

He further tasked the corps members to adhere to the constitution of Nigeria and the NYSC bye-laws and serve as ambassadors of the scheme.

The D-G assured the corps members that their welfare was prioritised by the federal government as their allowances had been increased and implementation would soon be effected.

Earlier, Mr. Jonathan Yavala, the NYSC Plateau State Coordinator, thanked the D-G for his visit to have firsthand knowledge of how the corps members were faring on camp. NAN
