Akwa Ibom Police Arraign 4 Truck Drivers Over Alleged Obstructing Highway

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has charged four truck drivers to court for alleged obstructing a public highway in the State.

The arrangement was part of the Command’s strategy to combat motorists unruly driving attitude that allegedly constitute traffic gridlock along the highways.

A statement issued in Uyo by the Command’s Spokesman,  DSP Timfon John, said the  four drivers attached to Sterling Global Construction Company, were said to have recklessly hit a tricycle rider, causing damage and injury to passengers ¹.

Ijohn said that in an attempt to prevent the driver from fleeing, four other truck drivers mobilized and deliberately blocked the public highway, disrupting vehicular movement.

According to him   despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation, the truck drivers refused to comply, leading to the impounding of four trucks and the arrest of four suspects

He said that the command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring law and order across the state, emphasizing that it will not tolerate any act of lawlessness or obstruction of public highways.

The spokesperson urged all road users and members of the public to conduct themselves responsibly and cooperate with the police in fostering a safe and orderly society ².

“This development comes as the police command, under the leadership of CP Baba Mohammed-Azare, continues to prioritize the maintenance of law and order in the state, ” he said. (ephemeralnews.com.ng)
