The Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST) Makurdi has matriculated 454 students for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The school acting Rector, Brig.-Gen. Solomon Inuwa, who performed the 20th matriculation ceremony on Saturday, charged the new intakes to focus on their studies.
Inuwa said that NACEST was a peculiar institution, having been a military institution that draws its students from both the military and civilian populace.
The acting rector stated that the school was not only providing sound academic training but also shaping the character of the students as future leaders.
He told the students that their being part of the ceremony was the outcome of their hard work, commitment and resilience that they have demonstrated over the years.
“I am glad to say that the college is today matriculating 454 students into various programmes in the School of Business and Management Studies, School of Engineering Technology, School of Environmental Science and School of Natural and Applied Sciences.
“The process of admission into NACEST is in line with the benchmark set by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) as the only regulatory body for accrediting courses in Nigerian polytechnics.
“Your being matriculated today is an affirmation that you have all met the NBTE benchmark.
“Therefore, may I use this opportunity to inform the matriculating students that a new chapter full of exciting learning experiences that will shape your future careers has commenced,” he said.
Inuwa said that NBTE quality assurance evaluators have re-accredited all their previous nine programmes and gave approval for the commencement of eight new programmes at the Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
The rector advised the students to always remember that self-discipline must be their watchword and they must take their studies seriously.
He commended the Chief of Army Staff for his consistent support and guidance for the college’s success so far.
Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr Fredrick Ikyaan, said in his goodwill message that the Benue Government would continue to support the school to succeed.
Ikyaan stated that the collaboration at the school between the military and civilians would surely yield positive results for both parties. NAN
