Sen. Ita Enang, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom has commended the peaceful conduct of all aspirants of the party in the ongoing primaries.
Enang said that leaders of the party had been united to support party candidates in all the primaries into the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly and Governorship.
He said this on Monday while speaking with newsmen on the ongoing APC primaries across the country.
The Ambassador to Germany said party leaders had met to bring out candidates that would be acceptable by the electorates to ensure victory in upcoming general elections.
Enang said in view of the uncertainties of the other political parties in the country, the APC would not take chances than to ensure peace and make concessions to bring out acceptable candidates.
“There is no division in the party and we don’t have bitterness after the nomination and we are able to garner all the votes for APC and President Bola Tinubu, Gov Umo Eno and all our candidates for House of Representatives, Senate and House of Assembly.
“We are also able to maintain the leadership of APC in the State, such that we can have at least 95 per cent votes in the state to ensure victory for our candidates.
“We have seen the state of uncertainty of other political parties and we don’t have to take anything for granted.
“Our party leaders have decided that we will make concessions, and maintain the understanding that was reached before PDP agreed to join us.
“So, we have kept our own part of the agreement, we believe the PDP will keep their own part of the agreement,” Enang said.
Enang commended the peaceful conduct of the House of Representatives primaries across the state and urged party faithful to continue in that direction.
He assured that Akwa Ibom APC will deliver more than 95 per cent votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, for him to continue in his economic reforms to put the country on track.
Mr Edidiong Ekong, one of the aspirants of APC in Ibiono Ibom/Itu federal constituency, who stepped down for the consensus candidate, said though the decision was painful, he had to be loyal to the leaders of the party.
Ekong said as a party man and sportsman, he believed in the supremacy of the party more than his personal ambition.
“It is a painful decision though, my loyalty is to the leaders of my party, who approached me that we have to go to the election with a united front.
“I am a party man, a sportsman and I have a large heart, so I choose the party foremost to my personal ambition,” he said.
