The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Thursday inaugurated the newly elected Executive Committee (EXCO) of Kogi State Information Chapel with a charge on them to embrace diligence, unity and commitment in their course.
The new EXCO has Mr Solomon Musa as Chairman, Olajumoke Ajani, Vice Chairman, Gloria Ojochogu Amodu
Secretary, Salau Ibrahim Treasurer, Abah Benjamin Eneojoh Auditor, while Mariam Teni Adams serves as Financial Secretary
Speaking at the inauguration, the State Treasurer of the NUJ, Comrade Sunny Adebija, who presided over the election of the new officials at the NUJ Press Centre in Lokoja, congratulated them over their victory.
Comrade Adebija said there was no successful leadership without sacrifice, stressing that there must be team work and tolerance to guarantee the success of their tenure.
He told the new chairman to see himself as a servant leader, who should carry everyone along in his day to day administration.
“Let team team work be your watchword even as I wish you well in your onerous assignment, ” he said.
Also speaking, the Acting Secretary of the NUJ, Dr Atuluku Samuel, noted that leadership goes with enormous responsibilities and advised the new EXCO to be faithful and diligent in their respective offices.
Dr Atuluku commended the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, for creating the enabling environment for the Information Officers to thrive.
According to him, the commitment and sincerity of the Commissioner has helped in repositioning the Ministry, and urged him to sustain the positive development.
In his response, the newly elected chapel chairman, Musa, expressed profound appreciation to members of the chapel for the confidence reposed in the new executive.
Musa pledged to lead the chapel with transparency, fairness, and dedication while prioritizing the welfare of members and the advancement of the chapel.
“It’s my belief that the success of this new administration will depend on the collective support and cooperation of all members.
“I therefore, urge all members to remain united and uphold the ethics of the profession, and work together to promote responsible journalism in the interest of the public and the image of the chapel, ” he said.
The chairman said that the new executive would operate an open-door policy, encourage constructive engagement, and initiate programmes aimed at strengthening professional capacity, promoting members’ welfare, and fostering harmony within the union.
He further reaffirmed the EXCO’s commitment to building a vibrant and progressive information chapel that would continue to uphold the core values of the NUJ while contributing meaningfully to the development of the journalism profession.
