The Management, Senate, Staff and Students of Salem University have extended their warm congratulations to Dr. James Ogwu-Onoja, SAN, on the occasion of his 58th birthday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo, in a statement signed in Lokoja on Thursday, described the Ogwu-Onoja as a distinguished legal icon.
Prof. Johnson Akubo said the salem university community gladly joined family, friends and well wishers in
celebrating Ogwu-Onoja’s outstanding contributions to the legal profession, academia and humanity at large.
The VC said, “Dr. Onoja is indeed a distinguished legal Icon whose years on earth have been marked by excellence, discipline and purposeful service to society.
“Again, beyond his accomplishments at the Bar, Dr. Onoja has given a remarkable account of his life not only as a renowned legal practitioner but also as a committed contributor to intellectual growth through the sharing of knowledge in the academic field.
“His engagement with universities, scholarly contributions, public lectures and mentorship of young professionals reflect his deep belief in education as a powerful instrument for societal transformation and nation-building.”
He stressed that the university has proudly acknowledged Dr Ogwu-Onoja as a worthy recipient of Salem University’s Honorary Doctorate Degree.
According to him, the honour as a well-deserved recognition of his professional distinction, moral integrity and immense contributions to humanity.
Johnson-Akubo emphasised that the institution was pleased to identify with him as a prominent figure, prolific writer and exemplary leader whose life and career have shaped, guided and mentored many students, lawyers and emerging leaders across the country.
He said that the legal luminary’s numerous contributions to indigent children in his community and beyond, through the provision of scholarships and educational support have given hope to the hopeless.
“Indeed his benevolence has enabled many young people to pursue their academic dreams despite financial constraints.
“Again, through these sustained interventions, Chief Ogwu-Onoja has continued to support the growth and advancement of education, thereby strengthening human capital development and contributing meaningfully to national progress, ” he said.
The VC further described the SAN’s journey as one defined by resilience, integrity, scholarship and selfless service, qualities that make him a shining example for students and the academic community.
He reaffirmed the university’s pride and honour in being associated with the legal luminary’s enduring legacies.
