Kogi Government on Thursday says President Bola Tinubu’s establishment of State Police will fundamentally transform Nigeria’s security architecture for its desired growth and development.
Mr Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information made the pronouncement in a statement signed in Lokoja on Thursday.
He lauded President Tinubu for reaffirming his administration’s resolve to decentralise policing during a high-level engagement with governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“PresidentTinubu’s commitment to the establishment of State Police is indeed a generational reform that will fundamentally transform Nigeria’s security architecture.
“This is because State Police has become imperative in confronting the country’s evolving security challenges.
“We believe that a decentralised law enforcement will no doubt enhance community-based responses, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen internal security across the federation, ” he said.
Fanwo described the President’s move as a bold and strategic step toward long-term national stability.
According to him the Kogi government is in support of the National AAssembly’s ontinues deliberations on the constitutional and legislative frameworks required to establish State Police as proposed by the President.
The commissioner said, “Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s administration fully aligns with the President’s vision and remains committed to supporting reforms that bring security closer to the grassroots.
“The government believes that the State Police initiative represents a decisive intervention capable of significantly dismantling insecurity in Nigeria.
“We also commend President Tinubu for the ongoing economic and financial sector reforms especially the proposed decentralization of policing as a natural progression in the administration’s broader national renewal agenda.
“As a government, we fully align with Mr President’s position and assure him, as well as the leadership of the National Assembly, of our readiness to cooperate with all relevant authorities to make the State Police a reality.”
Fanwo said that the Kogi government would sustained the collaboration between federal and state authorities meant not only to address immediate threats but also lay the foundation for enduring peace, security, and development across the country. (Ephemeralnews.com.ng)
