Mrs Hannatu Gagara, Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Plateau chapter, says that the state delegates voted during the just-concluded national convention of the party held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Gagara told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Jos that the clarification was necessary in view of a video circulating on social media that Plateau was barred from voting.
The chairman told NAN that even though there was an issue about the delegate list, it was promptly rectified by the national secretariat, and the state participated in the exercise.
“Somebody smuggled in a list of delegates that did not emanate from the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party which I chair.
“I drew the attention of the national organising secretary, and we rejected the list, and that was why the confusion ensued.
“However, the national secretariat promptly intervened and, in its wisdom, resolved the matter for the delegates to vote.
“I was the first to cast my vote, followed by my SWC members and other delegates as prescribed by the national secretariat,” she said.
Gagara urged the teeming supporters of ADC to discountenance any contrary report suggesting that Plateau didn’t participate in the exercise.
The chairman assured them that the SWC under her leadership was committed to running an inclusive party that would provide a level playing field for the aspirations of members to be met.
“Let us unite, expose and defeat the people sponsored to cause confusion in our midst.
“Through our unity of purpose, they will not have what to hold onto to derail our focus and dwindle our bright chances in the forthcoming general elections.
“For those vying for elective positions, believe in ADC leadership both in Plateau and at the national level, and you will not be disappointed.
“I can assure you that the current challenges bedevilling our party, particularly at the national level, would soon be a thing of the past, and ADC would emerge stronger and better,” she added. NAN
