Rotarians Against Malaria Global (RAM-G), an action group in collaboration with 10 Jos-based Rotary clubs, has provided free malaria testing and treatment for 300 people and distributed 400 insecticide-treated nets in Jos.
Mr Alex-Sunny Umeh, Assistant Governor and project coordinator of the action group, said on Saturday in Jos that the initiative was aimed at reducing the burden of malaria in communities.
Umeh stated that the event held to commemorate the 2026 World Malaria Day was to ensure early detection, prompt treatment and prevention using insecticide-treated nets.
The assistant governor explained that the exercise was targeted at vulnerable residents, including women and children, through the provision of on-the-spot diagnosis and medication.
He urged beneficiaries to consistently use the nets and maintain proper environmental hygiene to prevent mosquito breeding.
Umeh reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to supporting public health initiatives and collaborating with stakeholders to combat malaria and other preventable diseases in Nigeria.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) commended the initiative and described it as timely and impactful.
Mrs Grace Daniel said the free net given would help protect her health and that of her child while easing the financial burden of malaria treatment.
Mrs Mercy Atan noted that the free testing and distribution of nets would help reduce malaria cases in her community.
