Mr Richard Baba, Principal, Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Model School Jos, has urged students to embrace skills acquisition, as it would equip them to thrive in a dynamic world.
Baba gave the advice on Saturday in Jos during the 2026 graduation ceremony of the ITF Model School with the theme entitled “Education Beyond the Classroom: Building Skills for Tomorrow”.
He said that acquiring practical and vocational skills would better prepare students for self-reliance, innovation and the demands of the modern workplace.
According to him, education should equip learners with the ability to solve problems, think critically and adapt to changing realities, rather than focusing solely on academic qualifications.
Baba encouraged the graduating students to remain committed to lifelong learning and continuous self-development, adding that the skills acquired would enable them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
He also urged parents and guardians to support their children in pursuing vocational and technical education, describing it as a viable pathway to employment and entrepreneurship.
The principal commended Dr Afiz Ogun, Director-General (D-G) of the fund, for creating an enabling environment where the students acquired both academic and vocational skills.
Similarly, Mr Ojo Akindele, Chairman of the School Board, said the initiative had exposed young people to hands-on learning, enhanced their creativity and prepared them for future careers in an increasingly competitive world.
Akindele urged parents to encourage their children to embrace vocational education, describing it as a pathway to self-reliance, innovation and national development.
