The Rotary Club of Jos-Central on Sunday conducted free medical screening for 200 persons in Jos, offering tests, vaccination and deworming services.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach formed part of activities marking the investiture of the club’s President, Mr Israel Attah for the rotary year 2026 to 2027.
Attah said the outreach reflected Rotary’s commitment to disease prevention and treatment, which is one of Rotary’s key areas of focus.
He said the initiative was aimed at promoting preventive healthcare, encouraging early detection of diseases and improving access to essential health services.
According to him, regular medical screening enables early diagnosis and treatment, reducing complications associated with both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Attah urged residents to embrace routine health checks and healthy lifestyles, assuring them that the club would continue to implement interventions that positively impacted communities.
He further said that part of his blue print included the planting of 5,000 trees, kitting of pupils, provision of potable water through the drilling of boreholes in some communities and more medical outreaches in various communities in the state.
Some beneficiaries commended the Rotary Club for the initiative, describing the free screening, vaccination and deworming services as timely and beneficial amid rising healthcare costs.
NAN reports that the beneficiaries were screened for HIV, hepatitis B, diabetes, hypertension and malaria.
NAN further reports that persons who tested non-reactive for hepatitis B received free hepatitis B vaccines, while deworming drugs, malaria medications and other medications were also distributed during the exercise.
